What does a virtual personal assistant do?

A virtual personal assistant (PA) manages the details of your personal life so you do not have to. That means calendars, travel, household orders, family logistics, appointments and bills. Your PA works remotely from the United States. You delegate what drains you to someone you can trust.

Balancing a demanding career with personal commitments is hard. Many busy professionals need reliable hands for the tasks that pile up between meetings and travel. A virtual personal assistant fills that gap, and the benefits reach your spouse and family too.

Peachtree VA also offers virtual assistants for business. Tell us on your call what you want covered, and we match you to fit.

What can a personal assistant handle for me and my family?

A personal assistant can manage your calendar and email, book travel, order household items and gifts, plan family events, schedule appointments and track expenses. The list below comes from the duties we publish. Anything not listed here, ask us during your call.

Area Duties your PA can take
Calendar and communication Strategic calendar management, managing email and phone communications, organizing files and documents
Travel and events Planning and booking travel arrangements, planning events and family gatherings, coordinating projects and event planning
Household Ordering household items and gifts, coordinating virtual grocery shopping and deliveries, liaising with nannies and household staff
Family care Researching and booking childcare activities, scheduling vet appointments and pet care, booking medical appointments for the family, managing health insurance and prescriptions
Money and admin Tracking personal and business expenses, managing invoices and bill payments, tracking deadlines and task completion
Personal projects Managing rental properties and investments, overseeing philanthropic activities and board memberships, handling side projects and passion pursuits
Research and tech Conducting research and gathering information, setting up and troubleshooting technology
Anything else Special requests and custom tasks

You are not limited to this list. Our PA page ends with “And so much more,” and we mean it. Describe the problem on your discovery call, and we tell you whether a PA is the right fit.

Who uses a virtual personal assistant?

Busy professionals and families who want a better work-life balance use a virtual personal assistant. Our FAQ says it plainly: we offer personal assistant services for busy families and professionals looking for a better work-life balance.

If you run a household with several moving parts, a PA can hold the calendar and the logistics together. If your personal and professional tasks blur, tell us. We can discuss how to cover both.

How is a personal assistant different from a business virtual assistant?

A personal assistant works on your home and family tasks. A business virtual assistant works on your company’s admin and operations. The two roles overlap in calendar and email work. At Peachtree VA, both come from the same vetted team and the same matching process.

Virtual personal assistant Business virtual assistant
Main focus Household, family and personal logistics Inbox, calendar, projects and company admin
Examples Travel, childcare research, appointments, gifts, bill payments Meeting prep, CRM updates, reports, event logistics
Matching Method Matching Method Matching
Minimum 25 hours a month 25 hours a month

If you want a business assistant, see our VA services. If you want both, tell us on the discovery call.

How are personal assistants vetted, and how is my information protected?

Every Peachtree assistant completes multiple rounds of interviews, a skills assessment, background checks and reference verification before joining our team. Each one signs a non-disclosure agreement (NDA). All of our assistants are based in the United States. Discretion is part of the job.

Personal tasks involve sensitive details: addresses, schedules, health appointments and finances. Our assistants are held to strict confidentiality standards. They must comply with all client-specific requirements to protect your information.

Our assistants are 1099 independent contractors. We handle the contract and compliance side. Ask your CPA or attorney how contractor status applies to you. For guidance on safe setup, read our guide on giving a virtual assistant access safely.

How does matching work for a personal assistant?

We match your PA through Method Matching, the same process we use for every VA. A person at Peachtree VA matches you on skill set, personality, culture and capacity. These are built through understanding, not an algorithm. Most clients are matched in as little as 10 business days.

Here is the path.

  1. Discovery call. A free, no-obligation 30-minute call. Tell us how you live and what you want to hand off.
  2. Method Matching. We handpick an assistant who fits your style, schedule and household.
  3. Meet your match. In as little as 10 business days, you meet your PA on a kick-off call.
  4. Ongoing support. A dedicated Relationship Specialist stays with your engagement.

What are the hours, minimums and terms?

Packages start at 25 hours a month and are billed monthly. Hours can flex week to week within reason. They do not roll over to the next month. Assistants work Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., synced to your preferred time zone. We take credit card and ACH payments.

We do not publish a price list, because the cost depends on how many hours you need. Our Director of Business Development helps you set that number, and you can add hours later. Your PA tracks and reports hours regularly, so you see how each hour is spent. Read the virtual assistant FAQs for the full terms.

How do I get started with a personal assistant?

Book a free, no-obligation consultation with our team. We ask how you spend your week, which tasks drain you, and what a good week would look like. From that, we shape your package and start Method Matching. Most clients meet their assistant in as little as 10 business days.

Here is what helps on the call:

  • A short list of the tasks you want off your plate first
  • A sense of your usual weekly rhythm, including travel and family commitments
  • Any tools your assistant should use, such as a shared calendar
  • How many hours a month you expect to need, if you have a guess

If you are unsure what to hand off, start with the delegation matrix. It sorts tasks by what only you can do and what someone else can take. Our post on delegating to your virtual personal assistant also covers where to begin.

What if my personal assistant is not a good fit?

We rematch you at no extra cost. Our 100% Matching Guarantee has no expiration date. If the fit stops working, tell your Relationship Specialist. We diagnose the issue and find a new assistant quickly to keep gaps in service short.

You do not start over from scratch, because we already know what you need. This is also why we ask detailed questions up front: the more we learn, the better the first match.

Can Peachtree VA help with family finances too?

Yes. Our bookkeepers also serve families who want clearer personal finances. They help families understand their financial activity, build and keep budgets, track income and expenses, and organize records for tax filing. This is separate from the PA service. See our bookkeeping services and our guide on bookkeeping for families.

A PA can handle the paperwork around bills, invoices and expenses. A bookkeeper keeps the records and reports.
