Bank reconciliation

Bank reconciliation is the process of matching your accounting records to bank and credit card statements to find and fix differences.

In a bank reconciliation, a bookkeeper compares the transactions in your accounting software with your statements. Each item should match in date and amount. Differences might be missing entries, duplicates, bank fees or timing gaps, and each one gets explained or corrected.

Reconciling catches errors and fraud early. It also confirms that your reports reflect real cash. Most businesses reconcile every month as part of the month-end close. Unreconciled books are a common reason for surprise tax bills and poor decisions.

Peachtree VA's bookkeeping services include account reconciliation, so your accounts are accurate and up to date. See our bookkeeping page and the entry on bookkeeping. The work is simple in idea but easy to skip, which is why many owners hand it to a bookkeeper.
