# Delegation matrix

A delegation matrix is a grid that sorts tasks by skill needed and effort or value so you can decide what to hand off first.

A delegation matrix is a simple chart. You list your tasks, then place each one by how much skill it needs and how much it drains your time. Tasks that are low skill and high effort go to the top of the hand-off list. Tasks only you can do stay with you.

The matrix turns a vague feeling of being overwhelmed into a short list of next steps. It also shows which tasks are worth documenting in a [standard operating procedure](https://peachtreeva.multisites.ai/glossary/standard-operating-procedure) first. Use it again every few months, because your business and your best use of time change.
