A CRM, or customer relationship management system, is software that tracks contacts, conversations and sales follow-ups in one shared place.

A CRM stores the details of every lead and customer: names, emails, notes, deals and next steps. It reminds you when to follow up and shows where each sale stands. Common systems range from simple spreadsheets to full cloud platforms.

For a small business, a CRM keeps relationships from living in one person's inbox or memory. It also makes it easy to hand work to an assistant.
